It doesn't happen does it? (Luckily this post is not going where you think it is. :) )
I've been reading for a very long time and to my recollection I can only recall it happening in one book - Princess Daisy by Judith Krantz (okay, now I am having an eighties flashback).
And see how times change. All the girls in high school today are reading Twilight. I remember we read Lace by Shirley Conran. Eek, how embarassing is that now? Though to be honest maybe this had more to do with all the trashy mini-series that were on in the eighties?
I also read The Dancing Gods trilogy which started my love of fantasy, and I absolutely loved the Dragonriders books by Anne McCaffrey.
So which books were you reading in high school, anything embarassing that you're willing to admit to? I have a copy of Mark of the Demon to give away to someone who comments on this post. Poster will be chosen randomnly and winner will be announced on Friday.

I imagine I was very geeky back in high school as I loved reading all the assigned books in school like Ethan Frome, some Shakespeare, The Great Gatsby... In my early high school years I even read classics like Gone With The Wind, The Thornbirds, and The Sun Also Rises.
My guilty indulgences, though, were the Flowers In the Attic series books by V.C. Andrews. I think there were some spin off series, too? I actually still have all the books in a box up in the attic! And they'll stay there, too. I'm hiding them from my girls ... ages 14 and 10. LOL!
I read Lace, plus the follow on and Flowers in the Attic, and the sequels to that and a whole tonne of Mills and Boon romances which I used to get from the library, 12 at a time.
I loved the bonkbusters and even read my mother's Harold Robbins books. Let's face it I've always been a great fan of trashy books and even my 'too cool for you' phase in my twenties hasn't prevented me from going back to them now :).
Christine - this post is certainly bringing back memories. I wasn't as literary as you in high school. I didn't fall in love with Shakespeare until I went to 6th form college. But I definitely remember Flowers in the Attic.
Jenre - I'd forgotten the days of going to the library and coming out with a bagful of Mills & Boon. And another author that's coming back to me like a bad memory is Sidney Sheldon. Though I completely inhaled them at the time like the guilty pleasure they were.
Okay there is a Katie MacAlister book called the Corset Diaries that the main heroine farts, just sayin'
As far as highschool I read the Nancy Drew books and then whatever romance novel I could steal from the used bookstore super cheap without mom knowing. Usually I was reading sci/fi though
Sarai - YAY! I was hoping someone would have some more suggestions for heroines who fart. LOL. That makes two.
